After my presentation, the team hired me back on to take care of one of my recommendations that required some heavy lifting. I had recommended that the copy on all of the portal’s pages be rewritten to eliminate unnecessary marketing copy and focus more on actionable language that helps users complete a task. It took 2 weeks to rewrite the copy for approximately 50 pages.
Homepage Redesign
The company took my recommendations and put them into action with a redesign of the portal homepage. They were able to complete this redesign quickly and cost-effectively because I kept my recommendations confined within their existing style guide. Along with layout changes, my recommendations for the homepage included:
Increasing the contrast between the text and background color for better readability
Expanding the Quick Links section to educate new users on and guide veteran users to the most-often used content
Replacing the carousel with 4 static banners that have compelling titles and reveal more information on roll-over
Replacing generic “View Page” link titles with actionable titles that describe the action that takes place upon click
